The rules for using Ruban, in plain words.

These terms cover Ruban and Sight. Each app is sold as its own licence; where the details differ, they are given for each app.

Who we are

Ruban is a macOS app made and sold by an independent developer based in France (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at sandbox.macapps@proton.me.

What you get

Ruban is a window manager for macOS. When you buy it you receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use it on your own Macs. The number of Macs one licence key can be activated on is shown at checkout. You do not buy the source code or any ownership of the app.

A licence covers every update of the version you bought (for example all 1.x updates). A future major version may be sold separately.

Sight is a macOS menu bar app that blurs your displays when your head turns away from the screen, using the motion sensors of compatible AirPods (AirPods Pro, Max or 3). The terms above apply to it as they do to Ruban.

Free trial

Ruban can be used with every feature for 3 days from its first launch, with no account and no card. When the trial ends Ruban pauses until you enter a licence key. Your settings are kept.

Sight has the same free trial, limited to 24 hours from its first launch, with no account and no card. When it ends, Sight pauses until you enter a licence key. Your settings are kept.

Buying

Purchases are made on a checkout page run by Lemon Squeezy, which sells the licence to you as the merchant of record. It takes the payment, collects the applicable taxes and issues your receipt. Its own terms apply to the payment. The price shown at checkout is the price you pay, as a one-time payment with no subscription.

Using Ruban

You agree not to:

share, resell or publish your licence key, or use it on more Macs than the licence allows;
copy, modify or redistribute the app, or remove its licence check;
use the app for anything illegal.

The same rules apply to Sight.

Permissions on your Mac

Ruban needs the macOS Accessibility permission to read the position of your windows and to move and resize them. You grant it in System Settings and can withdraw it at any time, in which case Ruban stops working. What Ruban does with this information is described in the privacy policy.

Sight does not use the Accessibility permission. It asks for the macOS “Motion & Fitness” permission to read the orientation of your AirPods. You grant it in System Settings and can withdraw it at any time, in which case Sight stops working. What Sight does with this information is described in the privacy policy.

Updates

Ruban checks for updates and can install them when you allow it. You can turn this off in Settings. Updates may change or remove features, in particular to follow changes in macOS.

Sight checks for updates in the same way.

No warranty, limited liability

Ruban is provided “as is”. It manipulates the windows of other apps through macOS, and we cannot promise that it will work with every app or every macOS version, or that it will never lose a window position. Please keep your work saved.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, lost data or lost profits, and our total liability is limited to the price you paid for the licence. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and your legal rights as a consumer, including the legal guarantee of conformity, remain unaffected.

Sight relies on the motion data that macOS provides from your AirPods. We cannot promise that it will work with every AirPods model, Mac or macOS version, or that it will blur the screen every time. It is a convenience tool: do not rely on it alone to protect sensitive information.

Ending the licence

You can stop using Ruban at any time by deleting it. We may cancel a licence that is used against these terms, for example a shared or resold key. In that case we will tell you why.

Intellectual property

Ruban, its name, logo, site and videos belong to us. Apple, Mac, macOS and Mission Control are trademarks of Apple Inc.; Ruban is independent and not affiliated with Apple.

Sight, its name, logo and site also belong to us. AirPods is a trademark of Apple Inc.; Sight is independent and not affiliated with Apple.

Applicable law

These terms are governed by French law. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live, and you may bring a dispute before the courts of your place of residence.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top of the page shows the latest version. A change does not reduce what you already bought.
