Frequently asked questions
FAQ
Everything to know before you look away.
Which AirPods are supported?
AirPods Pro, AirPods Max and AirPods 3: they are the ones that give macOS your head motion. Sight does not work without them.
Which version of macOS do I need?
macOS 14 or later.
Does Sight track my gaze?
No. It measures how far your head has turned, not where your eyes point. It is not a real privacy device: if you only move your eyes, the screen stays sharp.
Why does macOS ask for “Motion & Fitness” access?
Because that is how macOS exposes the orientation of your AirPods. Sight only uses it to know how far your head has turned. Accept the request on first launch; you can manage it later in System Settings, Privacy & Security.
Does my data leave my Mac?
No. Measurements are read and processed on your Mac, with no account and no connection. Sight only keeps your settings and a count of today's blurs.
What is calibration for?
The AirPods sensor has no absolute reference and drifts over time. Look at your screen and click Calibrate: that position becomes “facing the screen”. The reference also re-centers slowly on its own while your head stays facing the screen.
Does the screen flicker near the limit?
No: an 8° margin separates the trigger from the release. The screen blurs beyond the angle you chose and only sharpens once your head is back 8° below it.
Does it use a lot of power?
Very little. Measurements (about 25 per second) are handled in the background, blur windows only exist while blurring, and tracking stops when the display sleeps or the session is locked.
Does it work with several displays?
Yes. Sight blurs every display at once, and rebuilds the windows if you plug or unplug one while blurred.
Where is the app once installed?
In the menu bar, with no Dock icon. One click opens the menu, and “Settings…” opens the full window.
